Imagined worlds - Sound

Here is my imagined worlds sound task.

Firstly we had to record the sounds which we did by holding the mic close to the source of the sound like the road or hallway.

First we had to choose sounds for our scene, mine being future London. We made a list of diegetic and non diegetic sounds.

1

Diegetic sound is sound you can see on the screen for example if you see a road with cars driving you can hear the car engines, that is diegetic. Non diegetic sounds are sounds that you dont see in the scene but work with it, for example if you are underwater a sound that would work with the theme like a submarine radar noise.

We went out and recorded lots of different sounds. To record these we used a shotgun mic which gave us the sound in high quality and meant that we could record at range for places like the road. We also connected this to a XLR cable which then was connected to our zoom recorder. Finally we plugged some headphones into the zoom recorder.

For my scene I used walking, drone wiring, drone noises and cars. The cars and walking were recorded next to a road and the walking was done in the college corridors, but for the drone noises we recorded the fridge in the canteen and the air conditioning in the front entrance of the college.

We then edited these sounds taking out the background noise of the static to make them much clearer

I did this on adobe audition as well as sony vegas. On audition I made sure there was no background noise on the clips and then I used sony vegas for the multiple fixed clips which then I overlayed and made them fade out and change the decibels of each to make things such as the clock tower louder

Finally we compiled the sounds together overlapping them with each other to get a more natural sound.

Conclusion

In conclusion I liked the final outcome of my sounds although I do think that it could of been longer and that some more background noise can be removed. Also I would like the final image to maybe move, there i can make the sounds go along with the video, for example making the drone noises louder when the drone is closer in the animation.
