Imagined worlds - Thumbnails

Image
This week we started our imagined worlds project, during this project we will create a high quality piece of artwork and add sounds to it. Firstly we start with 4-6 drawn thumbnails for out final piece, here the main idea was to gather ideas of what is a good composition. These may be changed as we progress further on with more detailed drawings. My first thumbnail was an alleyway with a dark passage, here was a drone flying around the ally with some lit up signs and vents. While I had some vision with this it didn't fit very well with our synoptic project. Next was futuristic London, this fits well with the synoptic project. all of the buildings have pink windows and Big Ben has a neon clock that lights up around it as well as the hands. There was also smoke in the nighttime covering the buildings. Next was a drone in a forest, this does also fit with our synoptic because in our script an agent is running in a field where he then gets spotted, the drone could be t

Tesseract

Image
Here we had a task to make a tesseract using Maya and mudbox, this would help familiarize us with mudbox while also making modelling easier as we can swap between to two to help us in different scenarios. First we start with a basic cube, we then made more subdivisions on the face of the cube so we had more to work with. Next we extruded out the sides and extruded in the middle, then we smoothed it off for mudbox. We sent our cube straight from Maya to mudbox. In mudbox we can now sculpt our tesseract details a lot easier than Maya. We can also swap between the two whenever we want. We took this shape up to 5 divisions so there was a lot more polygons to work with giving us higher detail Next we downloaded some stencils and added a new sculpting layer. From here we could use the imprint tool to imprint the stencil into the tesseract. We did this one each face. Here is the stencil imprinted onto the cube as you can see the additional layers of su

Script to Screen storyboard : Atonement

Image
For our script to screen task we had to choose one of the scripts and turn it into a storyboard. I chose atonement. Firstly we had to pick a section with some action so I chose a part about halfway in the story where some angels are talking to Hashan, a character who they made doing their bidding. Next I went through the script to get reference for what my characters look like for example by reading I can see than Hashan is middle eastern so when I do the storyboard I can keep continuity.  And here is my storyboard which was 16 panels long. On my storyboard I listed the shot type, any pans or zooms and what was going on in the scene. Finally after the storyboard we made character boards which were a more in depth look at the characters, some of the props like the sword and some features like the melting angel face. Overall I think that this project was a good product of my storyboard work so far, improving on the bluezoo storyboard. Here I actually did

Jason Chan

Image
This artwork has a range of bright colors which normally would indicate the piece to be very hectic, while a lot is going on in the scene the mood still looks very calm and relaxed. The girl on the bed is reading peacefully and her bed has many bright colors that make it very eye catching and the first thing you see. The deeper you look the more things you see that contrast the bed, in the background you see what I presume to be some kind of angler fish, this is very ominous but it doesn't take away from the calm mood because its shown to be outside. This piece follows the fantasy genre as there is an unknown creature behind the girl, this seems to be harmless as the girl isn't phased by it. The bed is floating on the water with fish swimming around large bubbles floating in the air to give more of an unreal feeling. Jason Chan is well known for his vibrant works in games such as league of legends which usually has the fantasy element. The piece follows an analogous color
