Game reviews

FPS

Fps stands for first person shooter which is one of the most played genres of games. In these games you only see in first person giving off the illusion that you are the character. Most fps games take a lot of skill with a steep learning curve to be the best.

Counter-strike : Global Offensive

Counter-strike : Global Offensive or "csgo" for short is the most recent game in the "Counter-strike" series which started with  the original Counter-Strike which was created November 9th 2000. All of the Counter-strike games consist of two teams. One team of terrorists and one of counter-terrorists. For this review I'll refer as terrorists as "T" and counter-terrorists as "CT". The aim of the game for T side is to either eliminate all of the CTs or plant the bomb which is given to one player in one of the two dedicated sites and defend it for 40seconds until it explodes. The goal of the CTs is to eliminate the T side or defuse the planted bomb before it explodes. There is also a timer which pressures the T side into going to plant or eliminate for if the timer runs out the CT win the round.

In csgo there is many different game modes with team deathmatch which is a 10 minute high paced shooter with quick re spawns and the aim at the end is to have the most points which can be acquired from kills and assists. Casual is for less experience and relaxed players which is 10 on 10 and is first to 8 rounds and has a maximum of 15 rounds ,this follows the same rules as classic ranked. Classic ranked 5 on 5 first to 16 rounds but can also have a maximum of 30 rounds meaning that if games are close enough they can end tied 15-15.

In csgo they introduced ranked matchmaking. Here you are matched online against real people searching at the same time. To get the best connection the matchmaking tries to match people closer to each other on the planet, for example everyone around the EU region are matched and most likely will never meet anyone from places like the Asia region. This can be changed in settings at the cost of worst connection for yourself. You can also host and join party's with friends which you can add using their unique username. If you queue with friends from far away such as someone from the UK queuing with someone from Australia the matchmaking would try and find the best suitable server for both people. Ranked is one of the main reasons people play csgo as humans are naturally very competitive. Here people must work as a team to win the game and as they win more games climb the ranks. Before you get a rank you must win 10 games to get placed. Here in these minimum of 10 games your rank can be figured out and placed. If you lose games after being placed you may go down a rank depending on your previous game records. Here the community can be very different as people are from all different places and speak all different languages. Most people learn English from this game so they can communicate and when the team finds a way to work together effectively is when the game is most fun. This doesn't mean that some people are bad for the community affecting it in a negative way.

In csgo the game is updated as this is the most recent game in the franchise. The updates are not too often as the development team seem to care about other things, one of these being controversial with loot-boxes. In these lootboxes people pay real world currency to open these crates and get a skin for their gun. These skins can be equipped to guns and hold a actually worth on the online market place. These boxes are somewhat gambling as they cost real money with a chance to get an item worth more. This is one of the main reasons the game is still being played as the developers have created a billion dollar economy where people trade and sell their skins for real money. At the end of games players can sometime be dropped cases or skins which can be sold for money or traded which influences people to come back and play more. The more people play the more they get bored of looking at the same default gun which may entice them to buy skins.

Csgo's graphics are simple and sometimes improved in updates. The graphics don't change much because the player need to determine what team they are against and make sure they can clearly see what they are shooting. But overall the graphics are simple because the game is a skill based game with most players having to play maybe even thousands of hours before their mechanical skill is a good as the best. Another reason that csgo is still relevant and one of the most played and bought pc games each year is because of the rise in Esports. Esports just like real sports, tournaments for people who are mechanically skilled in a certain game. Here in these tournaments the best of the best players are known by most of the community and are somewhat celebrities. These tournaments are usually huge with big prize pools and intense action seeing the best fight it out. Csgo has many third party tournaments each year but the developers also host 2-3 major tournaments each year which are the biggest tournaments and can have up to a one million dollar prize pool. These tournaments are funded by the developers and give fans the opportunity to watch in the game other than third party streaming as usual.

Call of Duty

Call of Duty is one of the most popular fps games on console with yearly installments to the franchise instead of updates to one game like csgo. Call of duty is a series of war games with the basis being the same each game to shoot and to kill, somewhat repetitive and basic but with each game changing around and adding new features clearly people aren't too bored of the franchise.

With each new installment of Call of Duty or "Cod" the graphics improve, comparing the graphics to the oldest game in the series to the newest shows a huge leap in technologies in the years the series has existed. The graphics are alot more detailed than a game like csgo with cs focusing on sharp simple graphics and cod focusing on the most cinematic and explosive graphics.

In cod there is normally a short single player campaign that takes advantage of the graphics and delivers a small campaign with a short story. The company has taken into account that the multiplayer is where the core of the community is. In each game the multiplayer is somewhat the same maybe with new power ups or items.
