Robot

For our vfx project we had to make a robot on maya.

The blue ring is where we rigged the robot so it can be animated easily. We also set the pivot point of body to the centre so when put it onto the full scene the body can roll and rotate fluently with no issue.

Premiere

To edit the whole scene together we used premiere ,where we then used colour correction because at the time of day we shot the scene it was cold and dark.

Here is an example of colour correction in premiere, here on the left is the lumetri scopes which show whats going on in the scene in a wave like form.

Phone screen

Here we had to make the art on the screen of the phone. We used photoshop on an image we found and made it the exact height of the phone model that we were using, this was mine and we had to edit a shape coming down with text inside to act as a message. This was done using the timeline and keying so it came down. We then rendered this as a png sequence.

Here we tracked the four corners of the phone so that the image can be tracked and move along with the phone. We then added a checker board to see if the tracking worked. Then we added the phone art onto the phone.

Phone screen swipe

Next we had to do the same thing as the phone screen but here we had to add the message going off the screen as we swiped it so we made a new photoshop png sequence and imported it. Next we copied the shot and added the roto tab, here we then drew around the thumb on the frame it touches the phone and swipes. We then continued to change the thumb rotoscoping by right clicking at stretching it to match the thumb and blur each frame.

Compositing of the robot

Finally we had to put the robot into a scene on maya and put in a camera and a image plane of the final scene as a png sequence too, this was then read by maya and we could use keys to make the robot move on different frames. We then put this into nuke where we rotoscoped out the building like thumb so the robot could come out from behind it.
